Who I am
Meet Katie Osness
I’m Katie Osness, a passionate vocal coach dedicated to the art and science of vocal performance. With years of both academic study and professional experience, I’m here to help you grow as a performer in a kind and supportive environment.
Educational Background
I’ve spent many years studying vocal performance and pedagogy. I hold a Bachelor of Secondary Music Education, a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre, and a Master’s in Vocal Pedagogy. Currently, I’m pursuing a PhD focusing on contemporary, cross-genre vocal training specifically tailored for musical theatre performers. My ongoing research allows me to stay at the forefront of vocal techniques and bring the latest insights and methods into our lessons.
Professional Experience
In addition to my academic credentials, I bring extensive professional experience from both the stage and the studio. With a strong background in musical theatre, I understand the unique demands of the genre. I’ve navigated the pressures of auditions, performance schedules, and maintaining vocal health under rigorous conditions. This hands-on experience allows me to offer practical, effective guidance rooted in the realities of a performer’s life, ensuring my students are prepared for every challenge they face.
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy centers on empowerment and individuality. Every performer has a unique voice, and my goal is to help you unlock and refine yours. I provide you with personalised tools and strategies—what I like to call “vocal hacks”—that equip you to troubleshoot and improve your practice independently. Whether you’re on stage, in the studio, or rehearsing at home, you’ll develop the skills and confidence needed to perform at your best in any setting.
Why Choose Me?
Choosing a singing teacher and vocal coach is an important and personal decision. I’m committed to creating a nurturing, encouraging environment where you can take risks, learn from mistakes, and grow as an artist. My approach is holistic, addressing not just vocal technique but your overall well-being as a performer. Whether you’re preparing for a major audition, tackling a challenging piece, or simply exploring new aspects of your voice, I’m here to guide and support you every step of the way.
